Welcome to Rick Hickmann Art Glass!

I hope to share with you my love of stained glass. I view my glass work as an art form so every design is my own creation and I do not repeat designs in my windows. I enjoy the challenge of creating a work that becomes a part of the personality of the clients and also fits in with the interior decorating. Feel free to make comments, ask questions, or critique any of my postings. If you click on the slideshow to the right you can view the pictures in a larger format.

The two side light windows finished. They will be installed on each side of the door not together like this. The darker green in the leaves does not show well in these photos but this gives you the general idea of what it looks like. Now on to the door window!

Struggling to find a way to photograph the sidelight window. Over 5 feet long so trying to figure it out without too many shadows to obstruct the shot. I really don't have much time to devote to figuring it out either since I've committed to a May 11th deadline. I'll just keep going. Copper foiling the second window now and the plan is to have it completed by the first part of the week.

Window all cut now all I have to do is wrap every piece of glass with copper foil. The first photo is one piece on my finger tip. The second photo is the piece partially wrapped with the foil. It goes around the piece of glass and then it gets folded over the sides and smoothed out. Kind of like wrapping hundreds of very little packages.

Here are some photos of the first window cut out and laying on the workbench. Still doesn't look like much but this is going to be a really great looking entry when done! Now each piece of the glass gets wrapped in copperfoil. I'm fortunate that I'm a very patient person since this part can be tedious, but always worth the time! There is a spot below where you can make comments or ask questions.

The pattern is for the door. I make two copies
of that, one is cut up and used for glass cutting
while the other is where I put the pieces and
start building the window.
The background will be waterglass.
This Saturday I will be heading to Portland for
the day to Cline Glass to pick out glass and other
needed supplies. These windows will end up being
installed in a home in San Diego so I will not get to see it installed. When it leaves my hands it goes
to a local glass company that puts the windows in
an insulated glass system. It then gets crated
and shipped out. Sunday I get to start cutting glass!

Please feel free to use the comment section to ask questions or critique my work.

International Door

This is a new project I'm starting. It is sidelight windows and door stained glass. This is the full size drawing all marked up. I keep this one on file for future reference with all the window info. I will be posting more photos hopefully tomorrow and then throughout the whole project.
